Great Ideas for a Rustic Home

When it comes to designing the look of your home you want to pick a style that something about who you are, about your sensibilities and above all something that makes you feel comfortable enough to say “this is home” to yourself every time you get in from a long day. Some people like a modern feel, maybe even a smart home, others will take a cosy approach whilst some may even go as bold as they can. If you’re like me though you’ll find that there is nothing more comfortable than the rustic approach to your décor. Personally, I can’t get enough of natural materials like wood and stone, they’re timeless, fashionable and really just help you to feel relaxed at the end of the day. If indeed you are this way inclined, then you too will be interested in these great ideas to complete your rustic home.

Pallet Shelves

We’ll start with something fairly simple that can really add that rustic feel to your home. Pallets are something of a goldmine when it comes to building homeware, tables, chairs, you name it you can probably use a wooden pallet to make it and as an added bonus it’s a great way to upcycle them so you can feel good about that too. They’re easy to come by and pretty cheap too. Perhaps one of the simpler things you can do with them is turn them into shelves for your wall. They look awesome and will take you around 3 hours to create one so it’s a nice little project for yourself as well. If you aren’t happy with the look of the wood and want something that is better matched to the rest of your décor then don’t worry, you can choose any colour or shade you like to stain the wood with so it’ll look great no matter what.

This is a great DIY project that will really help to give you a more stylish rustic feel in your living room. This rustic coffee table is pretty simple to make, all you need is a few slats of wood, don’t worry about the colour, in fact it can look even better with different shades of wood. Simple place the slats in pattern, cutting them appropriately to create the shape of your tabletop and then stick them together using glue and small nails. Once you’ve done this simply add some legs to the table and hey presto you have yourself a fancy rustic coffee table for a very reasonable price.

This is a very simple method for adding an extra rustic feel to your furniture that could not be easier to do. You’ll need some twine, which is very cheap and will come in very handy for a rustic feel, there is so much you can do with this stuff. Here we’re going to wrap around some cabinet handles and glue it down. Make sure the ends are glued at the back, so they are out of sight and the handle looks nice and neat. Viola, your handles now look delightfully rustic.
